Joe Hartson
Mr. Hartson has been teaching in the McFarland School District since 2011. Before coming to McFarland, he taught 7-12 band at McDonell High School and Notre Dame Middle School in Chippewa Falls as well as 5th and 6th grade band in the Dover-Eyota School District near Rochester, MN. Mr. Hartson holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a Master of Music (Trombone) from the University of MInnesota.
Mr. Hartson is married to his lovely wife, Lisa, who is a nurse in the Family Care Suites (mothers and their new babies!) at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. They have three girls, Alicia, Addy, and Lydia. 8-year-old Alicia is a third-grader in McFarland. Addy, who is 5, is entering kindergarten. Lydia, being about a year old, occupies her days taking books off the shelf in bulk and searching out chocking hazard sized items to put in her mouth.
Mr. Hartson has become a regular in the trombone section of the Madison Wind Ensemble (conducted by Mr. Vanderbloemen!) which is a group of musicians who perform for their love of great band literature. He also performs with and conducts the McFarland Community Band. Acting on his philosophy that musicians and educators should always challenge themselves, Mr Hartson has begun exploring the musical world of composition and jazz guitar.
